I may have opened the doors to A Little Zen in Uxbridge, Ontario in 2019, but the seed was planted for this clinic almost 20 years ago. For as long as I can remember I had a desire to create a safe space for people seeking holistic alternatives for their journey back to wellness.
Opening an "in and out of the office" private practice took root when I began my Social Work education in 2004. I then graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) in 2008 from the University of British Columbia - Okanagan. Alongside my Bachelor of Social Work Degree, I completed my Integrative Yoga and Health Teacher Training in the Kripalu Tradition at Trinity Yoga Centre in Kelowna, BC in 2006 and have been teaching yoga ever since.
Practicing yoga began as a form of self-care throughout my social work education and profession while working in various hospitals and community agencies. Yoga serves my mind, body and soul and balanced the intensity of my work ecosystems. Sharing the gift of yoga with others is one of the biggest blessings in my life.
When I began incorporating yogic philosophy and practices into my clinical work, I was amazed with the holistic parallels of connecting mind, body and breath in achieving overall health, wellness and balance. More opportunities arose to incorporate yoga and mindfulness into my social work practice as I continued my professional clinical practice in hospital and educational settings as a clinician and educator.
In 2009, I said farewell to the untamed beauty of BC and returned to my Ontario roots where I completed my graduate degree with a Master's of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Toronto in 2012. After working for over 12 years in hospital and community settings, I continually found myself being hindered by the ceilings and structures of the organizations I dedicated myself to working in. One day i had to acknowledge that was able to provide more to my clients by taking my clinical practice "out of the office".
In 2019, I decided to take a leap of faith and follow my passion of creating a holistic alternative approach to clinical social work practice by opening up A Little Zen - Zenia Mihevc MSW in Uxbridge Ontario.
It was the best decision I could have made. I now support people who may be suffering from challenges related to clinical mental health related concerns, work/life balance, life transitions, grief and loss, low self-esteem, traumatic experiences and through in person and online sessions, can bring awareness to areas of suffering and engage with their inner resources, strengths and live a fulfilling and meaningful life that is a live well-lived!
Uxbridge, Ontario is known as the Trail Capital of Canada, is surrounded by lush wooded hiking trails and ponds which make it an ideal location for me to offer this unique and holistic approach to clinical social work "in and out of the office".
